Long-term sustainability of
energy production is our compass and long-term priority in the energy sector
Long-term sustainable energy with a technological edge
Our priority is to ensure long-term sustainable energy production, based on the high efficiency of our resources.
We are a leader in the implementation of new technologies that contribute to a permanent decrease in the environmental burden. C-energy is one of the most modern energy sources in the Czech Republic.
The total installed capacity of the C-energy energy source exceeds 130 MWe. We are one of the few energy sources in the Czech Republic that can start operation in the event of a blackout, i.e. a complete power outage, thanks to battery storage. And in August 2022, we became the first source of its kind in the Czech Republic to completely abandon coal combustion and replace it with waste wood chips.
C-energy s.r.o. is a variable source that enables the simultaneous production of electricity and heat from various fuels, primarily from natural gas in cogeneration units (if necessary also in a backup gas boiler) and from waste wood chips in the most modern grate boilers with fluid technology elements.
Biomass boilers
2x45 t/h
Condensing turbine: 26 MWe
As part of the project "The End of Coal in Planá", the existing boilers K5 and K6 were converted from brown coal to biomass. Brown coal was completely replaced with wood chips. The reconstruction included the installation of a new biomass storage tank, modification of fuel routes and extensive modifications to the fuel dump. Following the changed power range of the boilers, modifications were made to the turbogenerator (TG) so that it could be operated with a smaller amount of steam to the low-pressure part. The project also includes a new access road for biomass supply.
Gas boilers
20 t/h Backup source (heat/tech. Steam),
Spiking equipment
C-energy gas boilers serve as backup sources of heat and technological steam for our customers. They can deliver up to 20 t/h and also work for peaking. Photovoltaic power plant (PVE) The C-energy energy source uses the most modern technologies. They help us ensure energy production at stable prices and with the lowest possible impact on the environment. However, our ambition to be a technological leader in the industry does not end with the modernization of the source and heat distribution, we are working on the construction of photovoltaic power plants. Which will serve as a source supplementing our aggregated capacity with their unique production formula.
Photovoltaic power plant (PVP)
C-energy uses state-of-the-art technology. This helps us to ensure energy production at stable prices and with the lowest possible impact on the environment. However, our ambition to be a technological leader in the industry does not end with the modernization of our heat source and distribution systems – we are working on the construction of photovoltaic power plants that will serve as a source supplementing our aggregate capacity with their unique production formula.
Diesel engines
3 MWe, SVR- PBS?
C-energy, as one of the largest providers of support services in the Czech Republic, also uses a diesel engine with a capacity of 3 MWe to ensure the complete delivery of these services.
Gas engines
3x11.5 MWe, 4x9.25 MWe
HRSG boilers: 4-5 t/h
Six Rolls Royce gas cogeneration units are among the technical finesse of C-energy. In terms of their power and number, they are by far the largest energy source of this type in the Czech Republic. In terms of the wide range of services provided by this facility, they are also a unique installation in the whole of Europe. The first four units were put into operation in 2014. Each has a power of 9.25 MW and weighs 133 tons. They are able to run up to maximum power from zero and then connect to the high-voltage network within five minutes. They thus help to balance fluctuations in the flow of electricity in the transmission network and increase its stability, and in extreme cases, prevent so-called blackouts. The other two Rolls Royce gas engine generators put into operation in 2020 have a unit power of 11.5 MW. In Planá nad Lužnicí in 2019, this was the very first installation of these largest new type motor generators from Rolls Royce in the world. When generating electricity, they achieve an efficiency of more than 47 %, and in the process of combined production of electricity and heat, the efficiency exceeds 84 %.
Battery (BESS)
Capacity 27 MW / 34 MWh
C-energy has many years of experience in storing energy in battery storage facilities. In 2019, it commissioned its first battery with a capacity of 4 MWh at the energy source facility in Planá nad Lužnicí. In 2024, it added a second battery storage facility with a capacity of 22 MWh. At the time of commissioning, both batteries offered the largest capacity in the Czech Republic. Following the commissioning of a third storage facility with a capacity of 8 MWh in Tábor at the beginning of 2025, the total current capacity of C-energy batteries reaches 34 MWh.
The batteries in Planá are not just storage facilities, but an integral part of a comprehensive production source. Thanks to their efficiency of over 90% and high flexibility, they are able to respond immediately and efficiently to market needs, stabilize the power grid, and at the same time strengthen the security of supply for customers in C-energy's local distribution network. They are integrated into the company's entire mix – they work alongside a biomass unit, gas cogeneration units, and photovoltaics, and in the future, they will also use energy from a new fluidized bed boiler for mixed municipal waste.
In addition, battery sources replace environmentally unfriendly coal-fired power plants, which are often operated for the purpose of providing ancillary services.
Electrode boiler:
A tool for power grid stability and efficient energy use
15 MW
C-energy s.r.o. has installed a 15 MW electrode boiler, which plays a significant role in ensuring the power balance of the power grid not only in the Czech Republic but also in Europe. This technology allows for the flexible use of surplus electricity, which can arise unexpectedly, thereby contributing to the stability and reliability of the entire system. The main advantage of this installation is the efficient use of the heat generated during boiler operation. This heat is not wasted by being released into the air, but is fully utilized in the heat supply system in Tábor. Energy efficiency is maximized and the environmental impact is reduced thanks to the use of storage tanks, where heat from the boiler is stored for periods of peak heat consumption. This also stabilizes the operation of the main source in Planá nad Lužnicí.
